Mintbase and NEAR partnered with Judas, a Lisbon-based ad agency, to host a fully on-chain party. From tickets to cocktails to a live auction, everything was tokenized. Why? To prove our NFT technology can easily be used in practical, day-to-day applications, even by a new-to-crypto crowd.

You’re invited to JUDAS GOES CRYPTO PARTY. Reads the Save the date email.

To understand the theme of the party (why all the Jesus puns and red lights?), I should explain the context: Judas is an ad agency created by three former executives from the biggest media agency in Portugal. The name is a wink to their “betrayal”.

So Judas went and set their HQ in the basement of a church. Then, the priest that got them there was expelled on misbehaviour charges (unrelated) and the new priest kicked them out (a company named Judas operating in a church wasn’t something he was comfortable with). They set to look for a new office and found a home in the Bank of Portugal’s old fort. And what better place to have a crypto-powered party?

Entry to the party was done exclusively via NFTs — so had to have a NEAR wallet. One hundred new-to-crypto people had to create a wallet before the event to receive their token. Lucky for us, the process was smooth enough. Creating a wallet can be done in just a few clicks, and then all we need is a NEAR name (no complicated wallet addresses) to transfer the NFT to them, paying virtually nothing.

On arrival, partygoers were asked to burn their ticket NFT. Like this, we ensure NFTs can’t be transferred around to let other people in & have visibility on how many people are actually checking-in to the party. Scarcity really is a powerful lever.

We also placed QR codes everywhere for people to buy redeemable NFTs. There was a special blockchain bar only accepting tokens as payment. Burn a hell NFT, get a heavenly cocktail. We set up a screen so the team could see the tickets & drinks being burnt in real-time.

Later in the eve, we kicked off an auction of an art piece by João Mestre, artist & designer. Bids could be placed in real-time, as people viewed the piece. Revenue will revert partly to the artist and partly to UNICEF Portugal. They’ll also receive royalties, forever.

For many of the people attending, this was the first contact with NFTs. Our goal with the event was exactly to have people interacting with the technology and learning about Web3.

For that, we believe experimenting is key. Get humans to use our tech and understand its practical applications. We also want to get feedback from our community. How can we make onboarding easier? How to make the platform more intuitive? And, most of all, what else can be built that we’re not seeing? What new ideas can be spun off of our tools?
